How the simple interest calculator works
Simple interest is calculated on the original principal. Enter the amount, select whether your rate is monthly or annual, and enter the duration to estimate the interest and total amount.
Simple interest formula
Interest = Principal × Rate × Time ÷ 100
Example calculation
For ₹50,000 at 2% per month for 3 months: ₹50,000 × 2 × 3 ÷ 100 = ₹3,000 interest. The estimated total is ₹53,000, assuming the principal does not change.
How time is counted
The calculator treats one month as 30 days and one year as 365 days. Monthly rates are applied to 30-day periods; annual rates are applied to 365-day years. Enter months from 0 to 11 and days from 0 to 29 in addition to any full years.
What this estimate does not include
This is a simple-interest estimate with an unchanged principal. It does not account for repayments, compounding, fees, penalties, exact calendar dates, or lender-specific rules. Review your agreement for the amount that actually applies.
Simple interest calculator questions
What is simple interest?
Simple interest is calculated on the original principal rather than on principal plus previously earned interest.
Should I enter a monthly or annual rate?
Choose the rate period that matches the rate in your agreement. For example, 2% per month must be entered as a monthly rate, not an annual rate.
How is the total amount calculated?
The displayed total is the original principal plus the estimated simple interest. It does not include any fees or repayments.
